The role: A Payroll Officer is required to join a very busy Payroll department on a fixed term contract until 31st March 2014. The role will report to the Senior Payroll Officer working as part of a team, you will process payroll data using NorthgateArinso ResourceLink system in accordance with the Council’s policies and HMRC legislation. 

Key accountabilities: The role involves processing variable payroll data, e.g. overtime, taxable expenses and resolving employee pay queries and liaising with third parties, such as the Busy Bees and HMRC. 

You will be responsible for entering new starter details, processing leavers, calculating manual payments, up-loading variable data,via on-line Self Service module, setting up third-party orders, assisting with P11Ds, and maintaining employee payroll records. 

The successful applicant will be able to demonstrate a good working knowledge of current payroll legislation and be capable of working to strict deadlines. Experience of working in a similar fast-paced environment, including dealing with high volumes of payroll data and a good working knowledge of ResourceLink is essential for this position. 

Skills & experience: We are looking for a self-starter who is highly numerate with the ability to deal with sensitive, complex payroll issues. Must be willing to work additional hours when required for month-end and year-end. 

Familiar with a wide range of IT packages, including Microsoft Word and Excel, you will have a sound understanding of current payroll legislation.
