Castle Interpretation Team Leader

Castle Interpretation Team Leader

Salary: Competitive Location:  Warwick

Type: Full Time  Postal/Zip Code: 02893

With over one thousand years of epic tales to tell, Warwick Castle is looking for an innovative, dynamic and passionate individual to take on the unique role of Castle Interpretation Team Leader and help bring our fascinating past to life in a thoroughly modern and creative way.

Without a doubt we’re steeped in very real history – but we’re also very clear on our aim to blow the dust off the past and break the mould. We’re not a museum and don’t want to be, but we’re passionate about the past but keen to always deliver this in an engaging, interactive and innovative way.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Guest Experience, you’ll have the exciting role of influencing how we convey 1000 years of real history to our guests throughout our diverse attraction. Whether it’s through shows, attractions, exhibits, talks, workshops and signage, or something completely new and ground breaking – you’ll have input into how we interpret our history and convey this to our guests.

A large part of your role will be to manage a small team of Talks & Information Hosts, whose goal is to deliver fascinating insights to our guests through a range of talks, tours and workshops. We’ll expect you to develop new and innovative content and ensure the team always delivers these in a refreshingly engaging and up-beat way.

Beyond this though, we’ll need you to input across the site, suggesting new ways of telling our guests all about the last 1100 years. So whether you’re working with your colleagues in the shows and attractions team to incorporate factual content into a new show concept, or reviewing what we already do when it comes to signage and displays, you’ll help keep our offering fresh but always rooted in our intriguing past.

As part of the wider Attractions & Shows team, you’ll also support your colleagues with the day to day running of the department, which will include covering department duty manager shifts, looking after all the shows and attractions when required.

About you

You’re naturally going to need to have a genuine interest in and knowledge of our history, with a commitment to continually develop this; however what’s even more important is that you’ll be excited by and share our ethos of breaking the mould when it comes to historical interpretation, delivering real history in a modern, engaging and interactive way.

You don’t necessarily need to have a background in heritage attractions, but you’ll have a strong understanding of what makes a great visitor experience, whether that’s heritage based or not and you’ll know all about great customer service.

Upbeat and positive, you’ll inspire people with your enthusiasm, ideas and ‘can-do’ attitude and be able to communicate and influence effectively. To join Merlin Entertainments, you’ll also need to bring a sense of humour, a sense of fun and a real desire to make a difference. We’re a fast-paced business, so you’ll thrive under pressure and get a real buzz from thinking on your feet and managing changing priorities.

Finally – it goes without saying that you’ll have previous experience managing or supervising a team and all that goes with that, with proven experience of how to get the best from them.

About the benefits:

We offer a salary of £18,270 and you can also look forward to a great benefits package which includes a company pension plan, various employee discounts, a Merlin Magic Pass which gives you free admission to all of our attractions worldwide, as well as a commitment to developing you to be the best you can be. Perhaps the biggest benefits of joining us, however, are the outstanding opportunities for career development, which quite literally could take you all over the world!
