URS is one of the world's leading engineering and environmental consultants, offering professional planning, engineering and architectural design, environmental, construction and programme and construction management services throughout the UK and internationally. We are currently recruiting for a Graduate Transport Planner/Modeller to join our well established team in our Basingstoke office. 

This new and challenging post would suit an individual at an early stage of their career and who is keen to develop their transportation modelling skills in a structured way within a transport consultancy environment. You will be a key member of our highly experienced team currently engaged in developing a variety of national, regional and local models to inform strategy, decision making and design. The team specify, develop and maintain models supporting a diverse range of requirements within the transport sector, using industry standard tools (LEGION/LINSIG/TRANSYT/VISSIM/SATURN/CUBE/EMME) and bespoke software (EXCEL/ACCESS/GIS). 

Our current work includes:
Highway, demand and public transport models
Pedestrian models for train stations and airports
Rail demand forecasting models
Local junction / micro-simulation modelling for airports - UK and overseas
Local junction / micro-simulation modelling for urban design schemes
Scheme appraisal and research – UK and overseas
You will be degree educated in a relevant subject e.g. Engineering, Mathematics, Economics, Geography and will have a post graduate qualification in Transport Planning/Engineering/Modelling. You will have strong analytical and computing skills and the ability to apply these through the various stages of research and model development. This includes initial survey planning, data collection and analysis, network construction utilising GIS and other software, through to the manipulation of transport demand data, running and interpretation of models and the preparation of technical notes to provide an audit trail and explain outcomes. Training will be provided in the use of software along with advice and guidance on the context within which the models are used

As well as the above you will be proficient in MS Excel, MS Access and GIS would be preferable, training provided in the use of transport modelling software. URS is a Stakeholder member of the Transport Planning Society and support personal development through the TPS’s Professional Development Scheme and the Transport Planning Qualification.
