An outstanding opportunity has arisen for an interim Development Control Manager at a vibrant planning authority with an extensive growth agenda for new settlements and enterprise zones.

You will have responsibility for managing a team of 15 with four direct reports ensuring that all planning applications are processed within statutory time frames. This is particularly significant as they consistently process a high volume of large scale major development applications. 

Another key component of this role will be to guide the department through a transitional period of change by reviewing and coordinating business processes to deliver outputs that improve operational efficiency and meet the needs of customers & stakeholders. 

Additional duties also include provision of technical planning advice for large scale major development applications across housing, community facilities and infrastructure, manage appeals, in conjunction with representing council at committee and hearings. 

Furthermore you will liaise with and brief elected members, appoint external consultants, manage departmental budgets and assist the Head of Service with operational management issues. 

Successful candidates will have acquired practical experience as a Development Control Manager or Head of Planning at a UK planning authority. You will have an in-depth technical knowledge of Development Control practise, process and procedures in conjunction with expertise implementing and delivering change. Finally is essential that all applicants have a professional town planning qualification with MRTPI accreditation.
