Job description

Working 1 night per week and also covering for Annual Leave and sickness

Responsible to: - The Registered Manager or Senior Person In Charge of the Home at the time.
Responsible for: -
a) Working with other staff to provide and maintain a high standard of accommodation and care for Residents. Providing personal assistance to ensure that Residents maintain as much dignity, individuality, self respect and privacy as possible.
b) Providing mental and physical stimulation by socially interacting with Residents of all abilities, both on an individual & group basis, incorporating into discussions their life histories and experiences.
Including:
1)Helping Residents who need assistance with washing and toiletting, dressing and undressing, including personal care of feet, hands, hair, nails, teeth and shaving.
2)Helping Residents who have limited mobility or physical disabilities.
3)Making and changing beds, tidying rooms and carrying out light cleaning duties. Also emptying and cleaning of continence equipment e.g. commodes.
4)Feeding Residents who need assistance, laying tables and trays, serving meals, washing up, preparing light meals, clearing and tidying dining room.
5)Checking, mending and laundering Residents’ clothing where appropriate.
6)Assisting in the provision of recreational & social activities as and when required, including alternative therapy sessions, e.g. foot baths, hand massage.
7)Caring for Residents who are temporarily unwell.
8)Helping to care for Residents who are dying.
9)Assisting in the prevention and control of incontinence, providing comfort with dignity.
10)Answering emergency call bells, the main door and telephone.
11)Making visitors welcome, serving them refreshments and giving any assistance they may require.
12)Reading reports, taking part in staff and Residents’ meetings and attending training sessions when requested.
13)Observing the Health and Safety Policy at all times, along with all other policies laid down by Oak Care Ltd.
14)Understanding and carrying out of staff responsibilities in the event of a fire.
15)Ensuring that all documents displayed on staff notice board are read.
16)Ensuring that any significant information or circumstances are recorded or reported to the senior person in charge.
17)Ensuring that any information of a confidential nature gained in the course of work is not divulged to a third party.
18)Refusing the offer of any payments or gifts from the Residents or their relatives without the written consent of the Director.
19)Establishing and maintaining good working relationships with all those involved with the Home and its Residents as requested by the Registered Manager.
20)Undertaking shopping for Residents only when requested by the Registered Manager.
21)To maintain a smart, tidy appearance and conform to the Company’s Uniform Policy at all times.
22)Attending staff meetings and all statutory training sessions and annual updates, together with any other training courses applicable to the post, as determined by the Registered Manager.
23)Any other duties which might be reasonably expected of the post holder.
